This iconic rapper rose to prominence in 2007 after releasing his debut mixtape, The Come Up. He would later release two more mixtapes after signing with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2009.

In his songs, J. Cole raps about his dreams of becoming a professional basketball player as a child. His wish came to pass after getting an academic scholarship at St. John’s University, becoming among the 10 call-back players in his second year. Professionally, Cole plays as a point guard.

In 2016, J. Cole signed a three-game contract with Rwanda’s Patriots, who play in the Basketball Africa League. He managed to play for 17 minutes, scoring three points, two assists, and three rebounds. This is the same year he got featured on the cover of SLAM magazine.

After leaving Rwanda, the rapper signed a contract with Scarborough Shooting Stars in Canada in May 2012. He scored an average of 2.4 points, 0.4 assists, and 0.6 rebounds for the Shooting Stars, and left the team a few weeks later to concentrate on his concert tour.
