Interview excerpt with Giomero Brand :-

Q) What motivates you ?

The people around me, the people around the world. Every time I see people do good it motivates me to the better

Q) Who’s your mentor ?

I don’t think I have a mentor yet, I look up to people though. One of those people are my uncle Patrick Brand who has a very successful business and another is Elon Musk who has multiple businesses.

Q ) What do you like the most and least about working in this field

I love having a target than working really hard to achieve it, this can be said about music and business. The thing I especially love about music is helping people to thought times and making them smile when they’re in their feelings.

Q) Any thing you are proud of doing / or any step you wanted to take but did not?

Im proud of my first show and also that I start with the entrepreneurial mindset at such a young age.

Q) What you want to achieve/ dream of Work you do ?

I want to have a trillion dollar business and build schools in proverty areas in amercia and all around the world. And give jobs to people in need and who are a minority.

Q) Your Message to public –

Success starts with a goal, and a goal begins with a dream. Be kind to everyone you see and meet a small gesture can have a big impact.

Q) Any additional information you want to give that should be mentioned?

That my mother thought me so much in life, not only to respect anyone but she also showed me how your destiny is not always up to everything around you. But with hard work and dedication you can come very far.

Q) Explain your Life in a nutshell ?

First I wanted to be a professional football player. I don’t really know why, it wasn’t because I loved being a professional football player, don’t get me wrong I loved the game of football. I think at that time I wanted to become a professional football player cause I was good at it and people told me that is what I should be. I always told them that I don’t have the discipline to be a real football player I would rather play the whole day with friends than focus on the actual training. It took me a while to understand why I did not try my hardest best to success in that field. Maybe because I was scared that it wouldn’t work out and that I made a fool of myself by trying that hard. But to be fair I think it is because of the fact that I since I was a little boy wanted to be two things.

A rich businessman and a hip-hop artist. I opened my first candy shop when I was somewhere around 8 selling candies to the kids in the neighborhood and turning my garden into a restaurant ( 2 old chairs and the garden table) for the parents to have a candy diner. When I was 11 I opened my second business I really made good money on this one. In the span of 3 weeks I made somewhere around € 80,-. What was a lot for me at the time, I was the richest boy in my class. I gained popularity on school by being good at sports and very communicative, I noticed at a young age already that I had big influences on the people around me. My classmates, friends or team mates.

When I was 13 I decided to make some profit of my influence, yeah when I was 13 I opened my 3th business a clothing brand. The funny thing is you can still find the website I made back than on the internet, full with grammar mistakes and to be fair I didn’t sell anything through that website. I did sell though in 2 months I made a profit from somewhere around € 250. What made me one of the richest 13 years old from my school. When I was 13 I also started to take music more seriously I always rapped in class. My old schoolmates would tell you about the song I always rapped: “want ik ben Giomero brandeniksta in de krant met eenbeker in me hand en met de zwarte band” translated: “Because my name is Giomero Brand and I’m in the newspaper with a trophy in my hand and with a blackbelt” That was the first sentence of the song. As soon as I would sing that song a couple of boys from the class would join me. But when I became 13 I decided to take it to the next level I was going to high school, and that’s where I would become big I told myself. The first few years passed and I wrote a lot of songs I still have them somewhere in my closet. And I even recorded some songs with my childhood friend Mohammed.

But it really started to become more serious when my live long friend Ehis (I known him since I was 4) introduced me to a friend of his who also rapped. In 2018 we first came in contact, I was 15 at the time and full of dreams. We recorded a few songs but they just didn’t feel right. Until one night, I was in the shower home alone and my speaker was blasting a instrumental. I free styled on it and came up with a really catchy melody. I recorded a voice note in the shower and immediately start texting job ( the friend of Ehis ). He came over the same week and we recorded the song.

Meanwhile my school was not going well, I was to busy with music and I really couldn’t focus on school. Skipped a lot of classes got send out a dozen of times and didn’t even bother to learn or do my homework. Every time I got home I got into a fight with my mom and the fight was ofcourse about school. This drove me more and more to my room (where I had my own studio) and even got me more addicted to making music.

The days on school where the same I would skip the first few hours, than come to school to play football than do 1 of two classes and than go home. Until i was playing a regular came of football and a kid I never talked to ran up to me and asked me the oddest question in my life. “I love how you play football can you teach me how to do that?” it was a quit kid I had a few classes with named Emin. I know Emin got bullied a lot but when I was there I would always say something about it, but I didn’t know his name or which classes he went to.

The question he asked me was odd, but most of all very brave. At that age to show weakness and ask someone you don’t know if he can help you with that weakness, not only shows bravery but also strength. It was something I admired about him. Maybe in his case it was bravery but more the fact that he didn’t pay attention on how other people would see him, but still it got my attention.

I never really paid attention about others opinions about me and that he didn’t do it in his own odd way was very interesting. So I told him I would do my best. Emin was slightly younger than me at the time he just turned 15 and always got picked last with football so it was a hard task to do. After 6/7 rough weeks of training, what mostly existed of me letting him run rounds while I was chasing him and making him dribble for hours. He got better, he got good.

I taught him how I always defend my opponents it is a tactic that I got from playing American football for over a year. It worked really well with him and in no time he became a defender everyone feared. When we played soccer in class, he would always be picked second. I hated that cause that would mean I had to play against him, and to be fair it was challenging. After 2 months of training and being so close with each other it felt empty when we didn’t train anymore. So we took the time we normally put into soccer into gaming. We gamed for hours and hours, games like rust or Ark we laughed and played.

After my gaming fase with emin I started to catch up with music again and November 2019 was the month that I dropped my first dutch single ever “Hella fine” with my friend job. 3 months later I got my first concert in magistart with only one song on spotify. The booker told me that I was the first artist that got booked with just one single in the Netherlands that he knew off. I have to tell you I crush presatiationsim never nervous I love talking and rapping, but damn.

I have never been more nervous in my life. The plan was to preform at the mainstage with somewhere around 600 people. That was the first floor, the second floor had space for 300 people and the 3th floor for 75. The whole night I was sitting there with my close friends Floris-jan, Quinten and Jasper being scared as fack. The thing was I also let some of the guys that I considerd dear to me know that I had show and that they should come.

One of a guy I have always been very good with Suleyman came up to me all hyped. “Bro you made it, your gonna me these people go crazy” I laughed while I was scared. I walked up to the booker and told him: “to be honest im not gonna be able to do it”. Of course they booked me paid the money, sold tickets because of me, and people expected me to come. So the booker replied with “best we can do is top floor but no one is there at the moment”. “No one is there?” I replied, I was so happy about that news. I got the microphone from the booker and went upstairs.

They set up the DJ booth and I saw somewhere around 7/8 people without counting my friends. I thought pretty decent for a first show in one of the biggest clubs in Den Haag. I was ready to go until I heard a voice I was familiar with. “Blank is having a show upstairs every one go upstairs” than I heard another one “Gio is upstairs go upstairs”. My two good friends Suleiman and Quinten went downstairs to get everyone to the top floor. In no time the whole floor was filled with over 150 people. The guard kept ppl from going up and everything was packed, to packed.

They where even scared that the floor was not going to hold it, I was terrified. Seeing people I know from my city mixed with people I don’t know. I remember the feeling, it was so scary but I was also ready for it. This would be the start of my career, lets do it. I got on the stage and everyone was screaming my name, from that moment I knew this was my home. I invited my friend Jair on stage with me to be my hype man. And we killed it. I did only 5 songs, while I had 1 song on Spotify that everyone knew. But the crowd went crazy even with the other songs. After the concerts I walked down stairs and people came up to me to say that they loved me, and even some for pictures. I felt like a star, but most of all I was exhausted. I put all my energies in that show that I even felt a sleep on my way home on the back of a scooter with Amber.

After the show I put more time into music I started going to music studios and I wanted to become better at mixing. So I read books about mixing, searched google about mixing, and asked audio engineers in the studios I went to questions. Being an independentartist means that you are not with a label and release music on your own. But for me being independentmeans that you can do everything on your own, so also the mixing and production part.
